Rosehip
+ a cup of water and a cup of tea at each CP

- though after the first two cps in the 50 they're close together and I didn't drink the L, I was surprised how much I did drink. for 10-15 miles from home, or a morning hillwalking, I rarely get through much more than 250ml.

Early doors that was the only way I was getting calories in as couldn't face 'proper' food.

I made the mistake of leaving an aid station on utmb with only 500ml plus what was in my bladder (not much). It was only 5k so figured it was enough and I wouldn’t have excess weight carried up the climb

Turns out it was 1,000m of ascent and took me 2 hours in the midday sun. I ran out of water halfway up and was destroyed at the top. Took me 15 minutes at the CP to recover and I only had 30 minutes in hand to cut off. I dropped 15k later. I’m not leaving a CP without a litre of water again…

We're lucky in the more remote Scottish ultras there are streams you can fill from. Never run out of water! Must be same in Peak and Lake Districts surely? :-) G

Hmmm that’s a great tip about the 3rd soft flask Dave I’d never thought of doing that but certainly will for any future hot races 👍 x

HappyG, never seem the Lakes as dry as the other weekend, streams by the side of Helvellyn were empty.

Rosehip
There was water for cap/buff soaking, but I wouldn’t have drunk it without a filter - too low down the hill for my liking

Has anyone got one of the salomon soft flask filters or similar? Mine fits in a hard bottle thats two big to carry in an event.

Got a Montane one which is great except the opening is small so fiddly to add powder. Have one of the new UD body bottles which don't fit the UD vest as well as the Montane, but they feel very sturdy compared to other soft flasks.

I’ve the Salomon filtered soft flask Rosehip. Use it as my third one, supposed to do about 5000 fills but wondered if that may change depending on solids?
