The quick story is I was using the almost worn out Nike Lunar Racer great shoe which they have now pissed about with and discontinued after them doing this with an equally as good shoe a few years previously. Tried a few different brands can't find a similar one even got Lunar Epic (Flyknit) which is ok not as good.

Anyone got any success stories I believe that Sauchony did something similar to their A6 racer.

I realise I'm answering a different question to the one you asked, but...

I have managed to get discontinued shoes (New Balance and Asics in my case) from ebay, Amazon and sportshoes.com

Have you given them a try? If you try Google marketplace as well, you *might* find some.

I use Nike zoom streak lt 3s, there is also a slightly more cushioned streak 6. 3s can be hard to get though and I suspect will disappear soon.
