Steve, thanks... I don't want to take anything that I don't know where it comes from, the quality of my food is very important to me, I don't trust the Hammer stuff, I hated it after one sip, but took two more to just give it a go... I will bin the rest of the stuff and won't touch it again!

The thing to remember as well, though, Hann, is that if you have a difference of opinion with your coach you need to work it out in a positive way. Simply saying "I'm not going to do that for the following reasons" does nothing for your working relationship, as it effectively undermines his authority/knowledge. As Gobi said, the fact that he is a coach means he knows what he's talking about.
I think the thing to do is to discuss the issues - see what their fears are - then make acceptable and measurable changes and see what the results are.
If you increase the amount of protein in your diet by eating more high quality vegetable sources of protein and you suddenly gain 10% in speed, then that's a win all round. If he fears that you aren't eating enough protein to build muscle, but you continue to train and improve at the rate he would expect another athlete to do so, then you've demonstrated that supplementation is unecessary.
Likewise, if he says he'd like you to try eating and drinking more on the bike, then don't just say "it's unecessary" - try it, but using whatever you're confident eating and drinking already.
If you're going to be coached by someone then you need to be able to work well WITH them, and that can require flexibility on both sides.

Anyway, for want of a nail and all that.....
I forgot to take my inhaler to work, so have had to come home pre-run, thereby completely scuppering the evening's plans. It'll have to be 10 or so on the local roads in the dark. Bum. And no swimming.
I'll HAVE to go tomorrow.

Yes, I agree with that Slowboy, and I have tried that already about the diet thing. I have not been given the chance to prove that my diet is sufficiently good. I have only done a couple of ride with them and a power test, all my training etc so far has been done by myself. The reaosn why I am as strong as I am now is because it is working. I think I can still improve a lot and will benefit hugely from a cycling specific approach, especially when it comes to race tactics and the like... problem is, if I get more or less told that I HAVE to take supplements and drink and eat more on the bike, without even given me a chance to try, where does that leave me? I DID eat on the bike and I DID drink on the bike... ok, the stuff I am used to using for my long fell races, which may be stuff cyclists don't typically use, but that is not necessarily wrong...
I even tried the Hammer stuff, for the same reason that, if they say it is good, I will try and see... for that reason, they should try and see how well an athlete can perform on a vegetarian diet and not assume from the onset that I am lacking in protein...
It isn't easy...

Slowboy, I used to never go further than 5 miles or so without an inhaler - basically if I did a loop which didn't go too far from home, I'd risk not taking one. I always took one on a longer run. I don't now. I only ever touch my Ventolin when I am ill with a cold/cough. I don't need a single puff any more, since my preventer drugs were upped to an adequate dose for me. I do harp on a bit about this to people when I get a chance, because for years I took preventers, but also woke up wheezy, and had to take Ventolin before exercise. It may take some twiddilng, but once your preventer doses are right, you are able to virtually forget Ventolin. Srs.
