Hi, I have done something to my back and it's pretty painful Obviously the sensible thing to do is not run at all. And that's what'll happen if it is too sore to manage. But as you might know I am on a streak and just thought I'd give it a go. I wondered if anyone else suffers from this ailment and if they have found the tradmill to be a slightly easier option. I am theoretically only needing to do 1 mile but I would keep going for a little longer if I could. Cheers.

Personally, I wouldn't mess with a hurty back.

If you don't normally run on the treadmill, do your mile on the road :)

Gogsy!
Get your kit on, AL - maybe with an extra layer or two - & go for a walk.

Once your back has loosened up a bit then try a a slow jog - hopefully it's a just a muscular thing & it'll blow over in a couple of days.

I don't understand how the concept of a streak works, believing as I do in the value of recovery. Do you have to run it, or would getting your kit on and walking with purpose assuage your guilt?

i thought a streak was usually done at a football match, or cricket - and normally when its a bit warmer out there?

Run for a minute, walk for a minute until mile is done? Maybe on grass etc to lessen the impact?

There's no set-in-stone rule but the USRSA (United States Running Streak Association - International Section) - yes, you heard that correctly - has defined the streak as 1 continuous mile of running (not walking) without any artificial aids (prosthetics are OK). So the mile that Ron Hill did with crutches does not count in their eyes. runeveryday.com

DeeGee, I believe that an easy run of a mile or so (even a little further) is as good as a rest. Better in some cases. And the benefit is continued commitment to running.
