That's only worse though if you disagree with it. It's not an approach I would instinctively come up with for a hard contact sport like kickboxing, but I'd at least give them a hearing to listen to why they've made that choice.

Recent illustration from collegiate swimming in the US outkick.com IMO this is unfair to biological females - how can Thomas's inclusion outweigh the right of women to fair competition. This photo from the Olympics of the mixed relay swimming team illustrates the physical differences too. twitter.com |

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Seems like this thread is relevant again given the recent news on sports opting to act on the evidence of the permanent benefits of undergoing a male puberty.

The swimming proposal for an open transgender category seems the fairest for everyone.

As an opinion-free comment, it's interesting to see that after a few years of very intense and heated debate on both sides, that many governing bodies are finding that they need to be coming to points of decision.

I'm not how much awareness there is of just what a Pandora's Box that may be opened by this, well beyond exclusion of a subset of individuals from one competitive category. This legislation proposed by Ohio Republicans was reported in several sources a short while ago. It's odious and is little more than creating a mandate for sexual abuse, but is quickly where moving beyond self identification can lead. washingtonpost.com |

I have a friend who went to the Olympics - genital inspections for female athletes were going on in the late 80s and 90s so that's actually nothing new. They said they had to go through it twice and they are a biological female.

My friend was 16 when it was first done, and not then an Olympian. I think it's awful for it to have to happen at all, regardless. Nobody should have to have that happen. |
