Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Back on thread - great post Fozzy, sums up my thoughts exactly (and I suspect those of others too), but much better than I could have done it.

Well, Raemond has achieved their aim. I will no longer be posting on here as they are clearly twisting my words when it is perfectly clear they are deliberately posting to provoke & as for deliberately misgendering - as you say, I don't know you so how could I therefore deliberately misgender you - that would assume I knew you and knew how you wished to be addressed which you have clearly stated I don't know you.

Those posters on this thread who know me in real life and have met me clearly know I would never knowingly misgender depsite my own personal views I respect others have alternative ones.

As with all posts on this thread - whenever someone dares to pop our head above the parapet to voice an alternative opinion that further research/thoughts need to be given to transgender athletes we are shouted down & insulted.

I knew I should have stayed away when I originally said I would.

I was presuming the 'he' was a typo rather than misgendering as (no offence intended) Jovi's posts do have a few.

On a train and struggling with internet connection. I thought Fozzy's post was well articulated and most of this discussion has been informative and I thank those with direct experience for being willing to share. Please can we keep the debate respectful and courteous on all sides? Otherwise people may not be comfortable in sharing personal experiences or feel safe in asking honest questions.

MsG - I know - my pesky phone is absolutely hopeless at auto correcting me! My actual real life spelling is much better - thankfully! :)

Is this an accurate summary of the thread so far (for Fetchies unable/unwilling to read back)?

- There is a concern, voiced by some, that those transitioning from M2F may benefit from a physical advantage in all sports, including athletics
- It is recognised that there is a potential for males to “just say” they are female in order to win. But…
- There is no evidence that transitioned athletes are winning races at elite level. Not yet, anyway.
- There are ways of lowering testosterone levels to the same range as those athletes female at birth, but the question is what is the appropriate level. Also, will things like years of training as a male give a long term advantage even if racing as a transitioned female? There isn’t enough research/evidence yet
- We live in a society where some people who are transitioning are uncomfortable about making this public; this applies equally to sport/athletics too. Therefore…
- Society/athletics governing bodies at all levels are struggling to know how to be both supportive and fair to all concerned when it comes to competition. And…
- The bottom line is that we recognise this is a concern but finding a solution is proving difficult, partly because it’s a relatively new issue

Is that about right?

Seems fair, GG :)

I was going to say, "Fetch, can the thread be locked now?" but I remembered that (1) thread-locking isn't A Thing here, and (2) there are lots of constructive ways the thread could be used, from mutual support for transgender athletes to a place to post new research developments and examples of good or innovative practices relating to inclusion of transgender athletes and appropriate protection of women's sport.
