When we got back home that evening, I went on line & filled in a Delay Repay form. I’m sure the website said that I would get a reply within 20 days. Today I received an email from Southern informing me that because of the delay to our train, my wife & I would get the princely sum of 90 pence each. Still, Christmas is fast approaching, every little helps!

They must know it's going to be terrible when they are advising you not to even try to use the transits
