I managed to attain my 10 mile target time on Sunday, so my next main target is at the half marathon distance. According to the calculators, what I'm trying to achieve is of equal difficulty (so I should be able to do it) - but obviously that depends on adapting my training specifically for the half marathon. So what adaptations should I make in training, moving up from 10 miles to half marathon?

When is your target half marathon and have you run a half before?

What time did you do for 10m and what's your half target time?

You will certainly need to do one or two over distance runs, c14/15m, to be used to the distance

Well done on achieving your 10 mile target. You could probably run a decent half marathon off the back of this but for specific training the main thing you will need to do is increase the length of your long run. What sort of distance did you get up to in training for the 10 miler and what was your training like otherwise?

My best performances at Half distance have been on the back of my Sunday runs being a minimum of 9 miles, with several at 10 miles and at least one (usually 2 or 3 weeks before the race) that was 14 plus. I also tended to do quite a lot on Saturday so that my overall weekend mileage would be quite high. (16 or 17 miles). In terms of improving my pace a tempo run on a Thursday has been the most helpful - 5-6 miles in total with the middle chunk at faster than target pace. But that's just what works for me :)

I must admit I bracket in 10 miles with 10ks and 7 milers and 5 miles, you can just about beast those, but on a half the last 3 miles can be payback time, if you've gone too far into the red. Over distance runs I think are key. as suggested, 14 to 15 milers, and particularly ones where you attempt to pick up the pace towards the end of the run.

If you've never run that far, the last bit of a half can be a bit of a struggle. Certainly was for my first, but I had only raced 10k before that and was still building distance (think I got to 18-19k in training before the race). At 10 miles you are already nearly there, I would certainly work on distance first, until you are comfortable running the full distance or a bit more. But don't get too worried if you don't get up to the full distance, I managed ok, just don't be surprised when the last bit is tough!

As others have intimated it's difficult to offer advice without further knowledge of your past training, and your Fetch log only shows a total of 22miles training so that's no help. However, even with a more detailed knowledge of your past training I don't think I'm really in a position to offer advice to someone with a sub-3 marathon, 1:21 HM and sub-60 10miler already.

Yeah, looks like he ran 1.21 half on 8th March, then a 1.00 10 miler on 10th May, then the 59.46 10 miler PB on 21st June. So unless there is more info on training and HM target time, most of us aren't going to be helpful :-)

You try the sub 2:45 marathon thread, but i guess some 15 mile long runs, some with some sections of proposed HM pace, and a pure speed session each week.

making your recovery or general miles are slow enough to ensure good recovery.
