Evening Fetchies ...

Looking for a bit of advice for a high mileage trail shoe with a low heel to toe drop (4-6mm max).

I'm currently using New Balance 110 v1's which are great for anything up to 20km but not so great after given just how minimal they are.

I was thinking of trying out the New Balance 1010v2 or the New Balance Leadville shoe. Anyone have any experience of these?

Or does anyone know of any other shoes they'd recommend?

I'll mainly be using the shoe specifically for a gravel/dirt/cobblestone canal path so will need to be grippy but not as minimalist as the 110.

Thanks

I'm using the NB 789s - I wear men's size 9s. Very comfortable but I've not run further than a half in them...

@K5_Gus ... not sure tbh ... It looks like a fairly sturdy long distance shoe but maybe not quite as minimal as I'd like. The Brooks Cascadia interests me a lot but I think it's just got a little too much sole and a little too much on the top to work as a long distance shoe.

@Lalli ... I'll check that one out, cheers. :)

I've heard good things about the Sense Mantra ... Hoka's I'm a little put off by for some reason.

I'd recommend Inov8 Trailroc 255 - 6mm drop. Good for wide feet, and so far indestructible, even after the Lakeland 50.

You could look at the new (to the UK) Altras (Lone Peaks I think); I'd like to hear some opinions of those.

I love my Inov-8 X-Talons. Very grippy, not just on wet mud and trail but fine on bits of road in between too.

@jacdaw ... I've seen those Altras ... what the hell is that "tail rudder" all about? Do you think they're taking the mick?

@RedSquirrel ... X-Talon's are great in the mud in these parts but not sure I could handle 31 miles in them down a cobbled canal path ... ouch ;)

People just cut them off, I think.

You should try a pair of Hokas before you decide against them. Lots of people seem to be converted after a test run. Our local shop does free loans of up to a week, no questions asked. They sound ideal for 31 miles on a cobbled canal path.

My wife went from running the Lakeland 50 in bare grips, then injuring her foot a few weeks later, to Hokas (to allow her to run with the injury), and loves them. You just need to be open minded about them (or have no choice).
