When I first started running, in my early 50s, I thought - like most middle aged women - the marathon would be my thing. I was soon disabused of that idea but thought I'd be ok at 5k-10k. I was never more than ok, and sometime in my mid 50s people started pointing out I was probably a sprinter. I did NO athletics at school, so didn't have a clue. I AM a sprinter. And a jumper it turns out. Who knew? Not me! |

What I 'did' do was a lot of dance and I love the technical and precision side of all the power events.

larkim I think you run at 200 cadence in standard distance races. Suggests power needed for speed might be lacking given you've auto chosen a strategy that limits power demands? What was your cadence here? Developing power and muscle recruitment is one of the benefits of sprinting for distance runners. Also sprinting technique does translate well for run fast imo. Nice work Sharkie. Race well in the League Gobi. Think the 5000 has become a 3000 due to heat. |

Garmin recorded max cadence of 237 but average was way off (144) suggesting very dodgy data. I'm sure at peak fitness I'd run a bit quicker, but not hugely. When I'm marathon prepping I do get quicker and stronger at the strides sessions though; today I didn't feel as good, but there are other factors at play which mean I'm not on top form. I did also have the option of the TJ but I don't think I'd have made the pit! |

Garmin is horrible for quick cadence average (via the watch anyway, pods might be better) so I use the max. I hit 225-240 in training hill sprints so should be at the higher end of that range racing. I'd guess higher cadences than that would be hard for distance runners.

Bolt's cadence at max speed was 264 apparently.

I was always better further out, ran and jumped as a school boy. In reality I can't jump and can't sprint However, just ran a neg split 1500. Finished in 4.50 and after Wednesdays 800 I'm pleasantly surprised as I can build off this. |

2:43 and melting in the 800m. Underwhelming but after 2 weeks off in conditions I hate I'll take that.

Gobi looks like we will be in same race Sunday. Our 1500 guy has dropped out so since I'll be down for the 3000 I've been asked to double up and cover the 1500 too. Could be painful....
