Do we have any track & field fetchies in Scotland that can tell us the latest info?

I got this info through from my Vets club (VAC) this morning. Nothing in my Series planer yet - they're still concentrating on virtual races. 'VAC is already planning its first events for April 2021. We are hoping to host a 5km road race and sprints track meeting at Wimbledon Park, similar to the one cancelled in December 2020. The date of 11 April is a possibility. Giuseppe Minetti, our Track & Field Secretary, is also working on a VAC event at the Lee Valley indoor and outdoor athletics tracks on Sunday 18 April. Throughout the year, we aim to offer a full programme of track, field, road and off-road competition. Look out for details and dates.' |

Sounds good Sharkie. What does VAC stand for? In the Midlands Nuneaton have already announced a full set of dates (but not events yet. Birmingham Uni have date (not announced publicly though AIUI). Heard on the grapevine that Tipton are planning to host their series of events this year after they were cancelled last year. |

So who is planning to do some track & field this year? Or is there not enough announced atm for people to make decisions?

Scottish here. We currently have no guidance of any kind. Scottish athletics are having a zoom meet tomorrow but due to the Scottish roadmap having no dates currently we are all in limbo.

I hope to do some, if any of the leagues go ahead.

I'm definitely hoping to do some. In the period in summer/autumn between lockdowns last year, a series of track races were put on locally here (as road racing was not allowed) and the plan was to continue doing them this year even after things open up fully. I hope that's the case.

Welcome Mark, good to see a new face on the thread. Looks like you've done quite a bit of track over the last couple of years with last year presumably COVID hindered? Shame that things are in limbo in Scotland, I know that having some dates removed the limbo for me mentally in terms of training. Hopefully things change soon Speedy - League only? No opens? have you heard any re league? J2R - Hopefully they go ahead and a longer season will give you time to build up to races. I can add names and goals in the header which can change as the season goes on as it would be good to have something going for track & field like on the marathon threads. I wonder whether season openers this year will go with the shorter distances (eg 300s, 1200s etc) or get straight into it. There's two dates in April I know about in the Midlands atm. I think I'd do 1500 in the first (assuming there's a 1500) then maybe finally get an individual 400m done in the second (again assuming there's a 400m). |

I'll give you a goal for a starter, SPR. A sub 30 second 200m for me! Definitely capable of it, but the one I did last year was one of my worst ever race performances (don't recommend running with a migraine!) and netted me an inglorious time of 30.0, which I'm anxious to improve on. A sub 2:20 800m is maybe achievable, although a tall order; but I'm reasonably optimistic of a sub 5 minute 1500m.
