My toes (specifically big toe and the next door one to it) chafe something rotten on long runs, leading to blisters. Short of individually binding my toes, can anyone give me any guidance about how they avoid this? Thanks. |

Generally I would say look at your shoes. They should have a sufficiently large toe area to allow your toes to spread out when you foot lands. Maybe they are a little tight and keeping them together. Friction leading to chaffing and blisters.

Thanks both. Readjust my shoes and apply vaseline. I'll report back after my next long run.

I would say shoes, too. I have one pair which are fine for shorter runs but which I have learned not to use on long runs for this reason. My toes like lots of space. |

It could be trainers or socks, or a combination of the two. Some runners recommend trainers half a size bigger than shoes to give their toes some space, but I've never needed to. However, I have tried several types of socks over the years until I'm happy with ones that don't chafe or give blisters. I know people are different shapes and sizes; some have bigger 'index' toes than bigtoes, or longer middle toes etc so it's just trying different things to find what works best. |

Injinji socks, or toe lube.
