We just saw how everybody felt and those that wanted to do a lap or 2, did whilst the others got a bit of kip.

Our team have done all but the first event. We have found that if we just keep to the same order during the night and everyone does one lap at a time that has worked best for us. The first year we had people do two laps in a row and although they were our faster runners they lost time as just got too tired on second lap. I have never managed any sleep at any TR24 yet but actually find keeping awake the following day OK and you sort of get a manic lack of sleep sort of adrenaline boost. IF you are a 5, and assuming everyone doing about 50-55 mins per lap you o get a 3 hourish break so you can grab a few zzzs - if you can amange to snooze wist lots going on around you. :)

If you can keep strady pace up during the night you'll find you jump up the ranings quite quickly during the night - we have found each year that we go from being a reasonable time off the pace to finishing in the top 10 by the end of the nightime laps. The first TR24 I was actually a bit scared of doing a night lap but having done it they are actually the most fun - you are going a bit steadier so less tiring and its great running in the pitch black through the woods with just a headtorch - love it.

Thanks all, sounds like my instinct was right. A half marathon (near enough) in the middle of the night with a headtorch just seems too mentally exhausting to me. Better to just grab one sleep cycle and keep going.

I think staying out all through the night last year had a lot to do with our (my) Southville B team finishing 17th while a lot of the teams hid in their tents. I was never expecting our second team to finish that high. So I know how important the night laps are :-)
