Luna is the rescue dog that we adopted on New Year’s Day. The rescue thought she was a staffie/labrador cross. We had a DNA test done and it turns out she’s mainly Cane Corso and Dogue de Bordeaux with a few others in the mix too! She’s still reactive to other dogs but we’re doing some training with her to try to desensitise her. Unfortunately we’ve been told it would be safer to muzzle her when we’re walking her as she’s shown aggression towards some people. At home she’s very loving but we can’t risk her biting anyone when we’re out. |

We muzzle trained Wanda and went through lots of different muzzles until we found ones that she could wear the most comfortably which were from The Muzzle Shop run by a lady called Fi - I believe it supports a lurcher rescue organisation. They are lightweight greyhound/lurcher muzzles (but she has sizes for just about all breeds) and come in a variety of bright colours. Fi is incredibly helpful and the muzzles are not expensive. While they are not the most robust (Wanda would roll on the floor and break the bars) they can be easily fixed with tape. We found that a bright orange or pink muzzle on a black/brindle face was much more visible and therefore people work out what it is much sooner. The best thing about muzzling is that people will just start to get out of your way. We had families with children cross the road (ideal as Wanda hated children at the time) and people who would previously give abuse if asked politely to call their dog away would grab their dog and get it back on the lead as quick as they could. Muzzling does not mean you have a bad dog it means you are a good owner. |

Excellent posing on the previous page. Fingers crossed you find a good solution to keep Luna happy and safe, lin. Sounds like the right muzzle could be just the trick. |

@BaronessBL thank you. I was reluctant to use a muzzle, but logically I know it’s for her safety as much as anyone else’s.

Start soon and keep going with it Lin. We were advised not to muzzle Biscuit by our trainer at the time because it would "make him worse" despite his reactivity. By the time we realised our trainer was a bit too... soft and lenient for our needs, we couldn't get him to wear one without aggression and we tried for ages. If we got it on him, it took two days to get it off. So glad to hear Flossie is herself again ![]() |
