Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Things you want to say and can, probably for a bit of sympathy or attention but theres no one there whos listening.

The point is, James, that I was strong armed into paying for 5 years' membership at once. Not many running clubs make you pay for 5 years up front, or gyms, or private members' clubs etc etc. Obviously, I don't mind paying for membership in the first instance. Why would anyone?

I thought the 100 marathon club was just a group of people who had ran 100 marathons rather than an actual running club. Therefore I wrongly assumed that the entry requirement would be to have ran 100 marathons rather than having to pay.

Don't want to hijack the thread onto the 100 club, they're very chatty on there if you want to go into it.

The 100 Club is a proper UKA affiliated running club. The entry requirement for full membership is 100 qualifying events. You also have to pay for membership.

The 100 Club is also a rather good jazz music venue...

Actually only 50 quid, and there's a 20% discount for paying for 5 years in one go.

The 100 club is a very cheap club to join because it's a bit like Fetch and is sort of a virtual club because members are all over the place. No regular training runs or get togethers organised by the club, no clubhouse to rent, no HQ etc. They organise one club race each year but that's about it, and there are some awards at the AGM. Lots of work done by the committee of course but that's voluntary.

The amount is very much secondary to the principle.
