On the other hand, one of my colleagues wrote in a patient's notes, "Runs lots of marathons." Having had a chat about running with this patient as well as having run in some of the same races, I know that they're a very good runner but have never run a marathon.

I suspect the patient may have sighed and said, "Yes, that's right, 10-kilometre marathons."

[I raced against a lady who was doing her 197th 100 mile race. Sandra Brown holds the world 100 mile walk record in 19:00:07 and previously held the 1,000 mile record]

Colchester half marathon. Took almost as long to get out of the car park as the bloody race itself, because the exit road from the football stadium where the race ended was the finishing stretch of the race. And they didn't open the road until everyone had finished.

Needless to say, I never did that one ever again.

"[Oh and I might start a thread for "Things supporters shout at marathons", because some of them are quite fun."

Or any race, no matter the distance. For example:

"Keep going". Well, yes, I plan to

I had a lovely conversation with one of my pupils a few years back. He wanted to know how far I could run. I explained that I’d run half marathons so knew that I could manage at least 13.1 miles. He still wanted to speculate on if I decided to go for a run and just keep going, how far I be able to run before I couldn’t run any more!😁 Think he’d seen Forrest Gump maybe. 😜

[In terms of “things supporters shout at marathons”, one in the 2017 Manchester marathon wind me up, as some guy shouted “only 20 miles to go” - we were only at 4.5 miles so clearly his maths was as poor his sense of humour).
