Indeed. Was Dyadya Kolya there? He was in his 90s when I did my penance. He was pretty much blind and I remember him collecting orange peel and throwing it on the fire in his study, not that one was needed in the middle of a Parisian summer! He used to make me recite Akhmatova and then sadly proclaim that " у англичан нет душей" (Englishmen are soulless)

I also met Ginsberg, he was Solzhenitsyn's cell mate as I recall. He gave a stupefyingly boring lecture on samizdat and the freedom of the press. No wonder I drank a lot of beer in the evenings.
