They are being brutalised by a megalomaniac, and any settlement which gives him a reward for murder, rape and destruction will embolden him to do the same again.

Politicising it by going back to Bush, Blair and the likes makes pretty leftist debating points but its rarified self indulgence won't help the Ukrainians who are being maimed, murdered, raped and abducted on a daily basis. The Russian boys neither. Our first hopes should be that their suffering ends quickly, and, sad to say, capitulating to Putin won't achieve that.
