let's make Boris Minister for London's 9th airport. Or miscount and give him Lydd, which is the 8th.

A calling for a GE seems to be gaining momentum in the press, maybe as as way to build a manifesto for what brexit looks like instead of a 2nd referendum?

I hope they just get on with now, big shoulder pads and thick skin for May and on with the negotiations. Put the best people remaining in the party for each job in charge of their respective areas and crack on. Election in 2 years once we've got our best negotiated position in Europe and there's some stability. Hopefully by then Lib Dems will be back to their best and Labour will have chosen wisely and we can have some proper choice. I too joined all 3 parties. Never again am I going to be standing on the sidelines when there's a big decision like this to be made. I suggest all voters join all 3 parties then we'll have PE in the party leadership elections even if not in the country.

I nearly choked when I heard May talking about workers on company boards -that's old Labour policy !!
I could never join the Tories -what's more as a Labour candidate in May my application would surely be rejected by the local Tory party

I'm sure May will make a speech at some point today.
The content of her speech will be interesting. While campaigning for leadership she clearly had to say that 'Brexit means Brexit' - whether she chooses to tone this down in today's speech will be very telling.

Even if you hate the Tories, you have to admire their ruthlessness. The hierarchy have got the leader they want and have pressured Leadsom out.
Listening to Radio 5 Live at lunchtime, the grassroots chair of the Tories reckoned Leadsom was well ahead of May, about 65 to 35 based on the opinion he had canvassed.

Wonder how the logistics of her becoming PM work out. The queen is up at Sandringham and then cutting the ribbon the new East Anglian air ambulance thingy at Cambridge aiport on Wednesday.

It's not the first time the Tories have out-Laboured the Labour party thogh is it Dr K? The PLP couldn't lurch further to the right if it tried.

The Queen will be consulted so she's in the right place at the right time to accept Cameron's official resignation and to summon May to make her PM.

Ceratonia: Skype? This is the 21st century after all.
I can't imagine how anyone took Leadsom as a serious candidate. Slating May for being childless? This isn't 'Murica. And according to Treasury insiders she is completely useless in terms of decision-making and leadership ability according to Treasury insiders. (http://www.private-eye.co.uk/hp-sauce - not a permanent link - the same officials seem to have been quoted in the FT but it's behind a paywall.) Not unusual for a Minister but even in these times we still have slightly higher expectations of the leader of the country.
