Thanks JW, I have the Snowdonia marathon this weekend (which definitely won't be a sub-5!!) and I'll stick to the strategy I have trained with so far, but I'll have a play around with different ratios of run/walk over the winter and see what works I guess.

How did Chelmsford go Phil?

I don’t think Phil needs us now - he seems to have run 4.40! Well done Phil :)

well run Phil!

Can i ask advice please? I don't really belong in here as I have no chance of a sub-5, but I'd really like to be closer to 5 than 5:30 at Boston next April.

I need a plan.
I do run walk for long runs and find that 4:30/30 works well for me currently, 4 runs a week is my limit, I break otherwise and I won't be able to train at all between Jan 28th and Feb 15th.
What would you do?

I’m following a Hal Higdon plan on an app (so personalised for me). Costs money but is nice to be told what to do when! Currently massively over achieving because it assumes I’m a complete beginner but will (presumably) become more challenging once the 18 week schedule starts in December. You can ‘block out’ dates when you’re away or can’t run. Might be worth considering?

Going to watch/ hover in this thread for a while. Last and only mara was London 2018 in the crazy heat; 5:45. Since then I’ve barely run and never really got my motivation back, despite been a keen runner before I decided to enter. Currently trying to find a motivation to run, and then when I decide to run a marathon again I’ll aim for sub-5.

This thread is too quiet!

how's it going mattglen - any return of the mojo?
How's Hal, jw?

I've gone back to the TrainAsOne app, not targeting sub-5 for the spring, but if Windermere goes well it would be nice to target a sub- round number maybe towards the end of the year

Ooh I forgot about this thread! Hal is going well thanks Rosehip - just done week 8 of his novice 2, finishing with a 15 mile run on Sunday. Starting to feel quite tired but I think that’s normal isn’t it? I’m enjoying the training sort of up to a point! Sometimes it feels very daunting but that’s because I haven’t marathon trained since 2013 so I’ve forgotten how much time it takes up.

the build up of fatigue is what stops me from pushing my training where is should be going, jw.
I'm hoping that this time around not needing to get up and go to work will help me to overcome the "I'm knackered, had enough" that I've suffered from before!
much luck !

After 5.29 at London last year I’m hoping I can get a bit closer at Edinburgh in May. Not really following a plan except trying to get out and run four times a week.
