Realised I hadn't visited this thread for ages and ages - when Abingdon was cancelled I got sucked in to the Loch Ness thread, and I've been there ever since.

I will be very pleased to get round Loch Ness in five hours, but not going to beat myself up if it takes longer. There will be a few of us towards the back of the pack, I think, so hopefully the company will be good.

Good luck to all of you with marathons coming up in the next month or two - get well soon, Max.

Doing my first half marathon on 23rd Sept. Is it feasible to increase my distance by enough to get up for the Luton Marathon on December 2nd?

Or is this asking too much of a first timer and should I just look to do more halfs this year with a view to the FLM and/or Edinburgh next year?

Hi Joopsy. I'm no expert but if your training log is up to date I think you might find the increased monthly mileage needed a bit too much of a jump. I did my first training run that was significantly above half mara distance about 12 weeks ago and have run 20 miles 3 times.

Best option is probably to look at a mara next year and find a training plan to use as that way you'll build your mileage gradually.

Thanks Bridget, yes log is upto date as I have suffered recently with tonsilitis and lost two weeks out of the plan.

Thanks for the advice, it makes a lot of sense.
