clare that’s fantastic, really pleased for you. Your account of the last 10k is a vivid account that I reckon we all recognise! Congratulations! Well done everyone. |

Thanks all! Off the back of Sunday, this week I've entered 3 races - the Coventry half on 31st October, Chester Metric Marathon on 2nd Oct next year and of most relevance in here, Manchester marathon in spring 🤦♀️!! Reason being that I don't want to do London next October as I've got New York in early November - 1 marathon per season is plenty for me effort and cost-wise! The metric will be a great tune-up race 5 weeks out from NYC - I loved everything about Chester marathon and I'll not now be tempted to put in for London GFA. However I always had a plan to do London in Spring 23, and my GFA won't count by then as they've massively tightened the qualification time windows and deferral policy. Therefore I need to do a spring 22 marathon to try and get another GFA (which should still be achievable if I can maintain where I am now). Beginning to get twitchy now for exercise - I've forced myself to have proper rest since the marathon, just doing walking to loosen my legs and hit my 10k steps per day. I might do a short jog later today and I've got HIIT this evening. Then I'm away for the weekend with (non-runner) friends so I'll not do much but hopefully go and find the local parkrun for a bit of a shakeout! Then back to a bit more next week but probably no speedwork until the week after... |

All very sensible Clare. I have half an eye on Manchester next spring as well Provided my injury recovery continues without issue |

I had an encouraging, somewhat hilly 19 miles on Saturday at what equates to 4 hour pace (2.55). I made sure it was run at an easy to maintain pace. This was really just a test of the ankle over time and distance and it stood up well. Also a test of recovery from illness. Compared to the slog of the previous week when I covered 17 flat miles in the same time, this was quite encouraging. I have no doubt that I'm not in 3.30 shape with 2 weeks until Newport but I am encouraged that a decent effort is possible. I just haven't decided on race strategy quite yet. |

That’s great news Oscar. Being able to ‘run long’ is such a confidence boost. I’m really looking forward to Newport. Whatever happens in Newport, I’ve decided to dip the Pompey Coastal marathon - this schedule only transpired through cancellations - I’m pretty sure that three autumn/winter marathons is at least one too many for me! So, please scratch my December marathon from the sidebar Clare, thank you. |

It's a cracking course for time, Steve. Don't expect too much scenery!! It could be quite blowy too. Hoping to see you on the start line somewhere.
