Best wishes RFJ. You can hang up your trainers knowing you've achieved some fantastic times and, more importantly, enjoyed it along the way. Stay in touch.

In the absence of anything specific to aim for, settled on an attempt to put together 100 days of streaking with a minimum of 2 miles per day. I do this more or less annually in spring running up to Easter as a sop to my catholic heritage, but that's usually in the context of having some spring racing to aim at.

I don't think 2 miles per day min should stress things too much (I've got a loop where I do about 0.5m easy, 0.25m at 5k pace, 1.25m easy just to keep it at least mildly interesting) and it is at least a motivator to get out of the door regularly. There are other bits and bobs I'll be throwing in there too to pique interest every now and again (hopefully!) so I might just squeeze over 1500 miles for the year which I've done since 2017.

It's a shame-faced attempt to keep me doing something anyway as I've learned that no races = no motivation for me at the moment. Short of a bout of illness, it's at least a fixed and immutable "challenge" that I can continually work torwards.

We all have different motivators Larks, obviously an impending race is one of the biggest. It's just a case of finding something you enjoy that gets you outside. Setting up a running streak is a good one. Fast or slow, long/short, hilly/flat, muddy/tarmac etc. it doesn't really matter as long as you're getting the health benefits of running. I'm not really sure I want to race again, so my motivation has come from other places. I think the longest streak I've ever had is 15 days so it would be an easy one to successfully beat.
