How about a hybrid of the 2? Start on the lower mileage plan and build into the higher mileage as you progress.

Lots of Easy miles is what got my marathon time (and other distances) down, just be careful not to suddenly jump the mileage up.

Cheers Controversial. I suppose I'll see how training goes and re-evaluate goal a bit closer to the time if necessary. My A goal is the sub 2.45 to get championship qualification and run London for the first time (although hopefully 2.56 would be good enough for GFA). Will take the higher mileage low intensity idea on board too. 65 mpw is the most I've ever done and current goal is to make that feel really comfortable.

Thanks Chris. I've been thinking about that too. If I do the 70 - 85 plan but drop all the doubles (pm recoveries) that would have peak around 80 which, if my normal base is 65, wouldn't be a huge increase.

On this page, the average 2:40 marathoner logs almost 800 miles in the 16 weeks before there marathon.

That seems quite light mileage for such a time! I was probably well over 1000 miles to just break three.

Yeah I think so too. For sacochra in particular, I would certainly suggest ramping up the mileage gradually and seeing how it goes...comfortably sub-3 on moderate mileage suggests they are some way from what might be achievable (though taking off large chunks of time gets hard quickly).

Jock - you are (or were) a natural athlete. If you trained better you could have been Steve Way :-O
