2:56 debut for the youngster. Seemed to take a different route to the normal marathoners, and doesn’t appear on the chip timing results for some reason...

Well done son!

Had a nightmare. 5.19 for me. Hit halfway in 1.14 and hammy went. Spent afternoon in the pub then jogged to finish.

Went to the start, though bugger that and went straight to the pub. Now staggering like I've just finished in 30 degrees heat 😉

Had a good day watching, tough in that heat for people.

Not nice to see Jock walk past FP. He was drinking a can of Stella at that point and I shouted "If it all had gone to plan the blog would have been up by now" he didn't take it well!

Surprised myself with a 2.39 although the course seemed greener and hillier than I remembered.

Still managed to give Jock a shout as he was laid out on the other carriageway. The Red Lion didn't disappoint either,

Let's do it all again next year lads!

I've had one experience of the Big Smoke. Compared to you guys a total novice. Wasn't the best race, so I do have a bit of a ghost to settle down there. Maybe see you all on the start line next year chaps. I'll need to run a qualifier first :)

That's an easy job for you Boab ;). And a reason for the rest of us to turn out for #justonemore

I hope that everyone is feeling recovered. It's always a bit of an anti-climax going back to work after VLM. Feels even more so this year.

But I've no blisters and no commuting. I usually have a week off running but ...

Hi all,

First time poster here. Aiming for sub 2.45 in October marathon. I'm unsure whether I should go for the P&D 55 - 70 or the 70 - 85 mpw plan?

I'm 32. I started running seriously in 2019. Did Oct 2019 marathon in 2.56, with 50 mpw during 16 week plan (peak at 63) and ~30 mpw in 16 weeks before that. Since the start of this year I've averaged 50 mpw and will be on 65 mpw until training for Oct 2020 starts (first time hitting 65 was last week). I did a 5k time trial a few weeks ago and hit 17:01 but this wasn't all out.

Thanks!

i'd say with the talent you have, whatever you do you are likely to go under 2.45 :-) So if 2.45 is your target I wouldn't stress to much on the volume.
However, with a 17.01 5K time without going out flat out, I would be looking more for a sub 2.40.
One thing still to find out for you is how well you respond to volume of training and how your body handles it.
So over the next few weeks (cycles of 2 or 3 weeks with 1 recovery) I would increase volume trying to reach 85 to 90mw without too much intensity.
Then you can decided if the 70-85 mpw plan is good for you.
