When Adrian Chiles was a little boy his greatest wish was that when he grew up he'd present a top magazine-format early-evening show on the BBC. Unfortunately, that dream didn't come true and he ended up presenting The One Show instead. Now he wails tunelessly, sobbing out his plaintive lament. This is The Song of Adrian Chiles.

Before reading the Book Group book each month, I like to have a look at Amazon reviews, particularly the one-star reviews. Often these are enlightening things like:

"Book arrived damaged. One star"; or
"Book is brilliant but arrived late. One star." which mostly shows that some people are too stupid to be allowed access to the Internet.

However, this book as the wonderful 1-star review "I thought this was going to be Greek mythology for today's world. It was gay porn, with a Mills and Boon narrative style. Basically Dick Lit."

Can't wait ;-)

I read this a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. Don't have my copy any more - think it went to the charity shop when I last moved house; but I may pop into the discussion from time to time.

I did just start reading Madeleine Miller's latest, Circe, which is interesting so far.

Ok before reading back: romped through, read it next to a pool it was a good holiday read. All very coy and romantic, enjoyed Odysseus but last third did feel somewhat predictable and my intellect feels a bit underused at the end of it :-) unusual to ignore the heel

I think gay porn is rather overstating it. Mills and Boon closer to mark: “roughly he grabbed her heaving shoulders” ;-)
