This reminds me today, as I gazed around some very pretty countryside, I remarked to c9 “I love corn” She was briefly mortified as her duff hearing heard “porn” not “corn”

LOL Dipps.

I’ve finished it now. It’s hard to tell how much of the things I disliked about this book we’re down to a shonky translation and how much was down to naff writing and cultural differences. On reflection I’ve read plenty of translated fiction and never have I read such crass and unnatural behaviour and dialogue. I’m going with a 4.

I didn't like it. And I picked it. Hope I'm forgiven

Like a lot of people I've seen the TV adaptation and enjoyed it even though my Italian isn't good. But have always had a liking of all things Italian.

I was hoping it was going to be better than it was. Thankfully it was a quick read. Maybe it was the translation. But I was told albeit on twitter this guy was the best and respected translator. Wasn't aware of others.
Also this was the first book in the series maybe they'll get better who knows. If I ever decide to read any more

Anyway sorry I'll give it a 5

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
Andrea Calimari likes nothing better than a lovely fish supper with squid rings and thick cut chips. Lots of salt and vinegar and eaten from the paper. Mmm-mm.

By contrast, his pal, Andrea Camilleri writes the adventures of detective Savlon Monty Balloon who solves food-crimes. Y'know, like Rosemary and Thyme off the telly. Only in Italian. His first Savlon novel was Shaky in the Water about Shakin' Stevens taking swimming lessons from the Krankies. I think that's what it's about, but I admit I only skimmed it.

Now read on!
