Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think mine got paid off 2015, redundancy, selling Cotswolds house, moving North. Part time since. OH has probably 5 years to go, I would like less. We can afford it. The question is where do we retire too....

I have a few mates who have been made redundant 4 or 5 times, in each case getting a decent payout and a then a better paid job immediately.

Not sure I’d want it now but it would have been handy in my 20s and 30s

I’ve had a couple of days off on my own this week and I’ve pondered whether this is what retirement might look like. I’m not sure I will enjoy lots of time when it’s raining, but I will definitely love the dry days :-)

Hubby killed off our mortgage when the company he was working for was bought out back in 2008. He's also had a couple of lucky redundancies in past years too.

Mind you I find all this talk of £1000+ mortgages scary.

I would have no money to live on after a mortgage of that size.

More than I’ve ever earned in a month. Didn’t realise everyone was so posh

I’m certainly not that posh. My mortgage is only £77 a month.
