I always used premium bonds as a place to store money for tax bills - I usually came out on top and reinvested the winnings so I have some left. Like interest rates, the win rate has gone down a lot and unless you are lucky is not close to inflation - can't remember the last time I even got £25, but it's better than the lottery at least the stake is still there.

Ditto waiting for final McCloud news. I’d expected it to be unsuccessful so will be nice to see the numbers once sorted.

I have a reasonable amount in Premium Bonds. I think Martin Lewis did a calculation once which suggested you’d be better off putting your savings in a high interest account and buying lottery tickets with the difference. I’ve stuck with the P.B’s though! |

It's finding a safe high-interest account is the problem Another PB holder here, I don't get a win every month by any means but I get enough to make it acceptable. I did have a real song and dance being able to confirm my bank account details for them to pay any winnings into, instead of sending a cheque (which I preferred, it was more exciting ) I was given a real runaround trying to log into my account, made a formal complaint which wasn't investigated within the required time limit, and eventually, once it was sorted, received a £50 cheque in compensation |

Do the Premium Bonds still send people round to your house if you're a main winner? (I've always seemed to have missed their call..)

Martin Lewis has got a page on premium bonds at moneysavingexpert.com I've decided that as long as I've got a reasonable amount invested, I've got a good chance of keeping up with inflation (and a tiny chance of winning a million) |

I think Premium Bonds are a waste, but not so much as to justify the effort involved in redeeming them. Let's not forget that the 'stake' is the interest we're not getting, not the purchase price. |

With PBs, it seems to be that big blocks seem to pay out more regularly and also more recent purchases. In the past, I've cashed them in and bought another big block which then started paying out again. I also like that there is an outside chance of having a big win. |

The ex husband had premium bonds. I was with him for 10 years and he won £50 once and £200 once... He would have earnt more in interest....
