"Looks like the programme is reverting to a more David Tennant/ Matt Smith era - younger Doctor, easy on the eye female Companion!"

Given its RTD writing, expect 'romance' between the D and the C.

My kids showed me a post saying there was a new actor cast as Rose.

I think it’s more complicated than that - new actor playing a new character also called arose, rumoured to be Donna’s daughter.

It is the anniversary of the first showing of 'Doctor Who' in 1963. From the linked article:

"...Doctor Who first appeared on the BBC Television Service at 17:16:20 GMT on Saturday, 23 November 1963; this was eighty seconds later than the scheduled programme time, because of announcements concerning the previous day's assassination of John F. Kennedy." ...

I don't actually remember the 1st broadcast, but I do remember they repeated it 7 days later because of JFK and I watched that. Repeating something was very rare in those days and so my parents thought this must be important.

I was 10, accompanied by newspaper rustling and harumphing by parents. ;)

I've just watched (for the first time) on YouTube the Comic Relief special with Rowan Atkinson as the doctor (among others!). Steven Moffat's first Doctor Who script.

Massive nostalgia moment (it really is like an Old Who episode in production) and it's really pretty good. Puerile, but a lot of fun.

Treated myself to a couple of months of britbox addition on Amazon prime and working my way through the classic doctor stories (not having seen most of them).

Doing a bit of a machete order though.

Started with Peri, then moved onto Mel and Ace, then back to Liz Shaw, Jo Grant and Sarah Jane Smith.

Currently on Leela.

(Yes I'm ordering by companion).

Have to say, dodgy effects notwithstanding, much of the UNIT era isn't terrible. Post-UNIT has a few issues with racial and gender stereotypes in places.

But probably not out of step with other TV from the 70s.
