My favourite comment from the great public of Facebook is this gem:
Given the quality of scripts in recent years, one has to ask is this another example of victimising black people?

Russell T. Davies's stock rather lower tonight after 'It's A Sin' is passed over.

Also never heard of him* but look forward to seeing how he does in the role. Hope he has more range!

* not a problem: I’d never heard of Matt Smith and he was great.

It'd be interesting to look at the professional standing of earlier 'Dr Who' actors when each took up the role. For example, William Hartnell first appeared on stage in 1925 and played tough guys after the war, e.g. The Army Game. Verity Lambert spotted him in 'This Sporting Life' and offered him 'Dr Who' - which he took rather reluctantly.

I’ll be very interested to see how they manage a change of actor and lead writer. I thought Jodie Whittaker could have been great with better scripts!

CK2 With you on that. Sometimes, the sheer frustration of delivering a floundering or simply naff script would almost bubble over in Jodie's performances.

Definitely the stories have been the main problem, no question.

I do think though that, although the 13th Doctor has been fine, as the run has continued I’ve been slightly frustrated that we get the nutty genius, mad energy and the self aware cheeky boastfulness that is always some part of the doctor’s personality, but we don’t see (in my opinion) the doctor being really funny, or terrifying, or deeply compassionate.

That’s what I mean by a lack of range and I think the previous modern era doctors have all had at least one of those.

To what extent that is the scripts again, and to what extent the acting, I don’t know. I think it is at probably at least some mix of both though.
