I don't think I've watched Dr Who properly since David Tennant and a bit of Matt Smith (I agree that Christopher Ecclestone was great and I don't think that such a successful return would have happened without him and Billie Piper) - I tried to watch a few with Peter Capaldi and also Jodie Whittaker, but just had no idea what was going on.

Watched the David Tennant new episode on iplayer on UHD and really enjoyed it!

I think capaldi had poor writing, too.
And yet,

The Magician's Apprentice
The Girl Who Died
The Woman Who Lived
Face The Raven
Heaven Sent *
Hell Bent *
World Enough and Time
The Doctor Falls *
Twice Upon A Time

Saturday was a very low bar achieved by comparison.

One of the things I like about David Tennant as the Doctor is his ability to switch between emotions so quickly and believably. I think Russell T Davies takes advantage of that in his writing.

There was a good example when he meets Shirley Bingham and there’s that brief exchange that shows how unsure he is about who and why he’s back, while he’s trying to figure out what’s happening AND being super clever.

It was something I first noticed with DT in Casanova.
