Nice display. I have some decidedly wonky ones, must take pictures. Some showing what happens if they never come out of the seed trays.

Angus - nah. It's a very flexible growoff But as the season comes to an end can I just thank everyone for playing - you've been awesome and always remember Rule 6 Hope everyone chooses to have a go again next year |

We came back from a 2 week holiday at the weekend and were surprised to see all but one of our sunflowers still standing. I'm guessing the tallest one is about 10 foot tall? Any advice on collecting seeds for next year? |

Mine automatically self-seeded this year...from the pot where last year's flowers grew. Next year I'll try planting them in the ground...though the soil is pretty rotten where I live. I grow everything in containers.

I will certainly need to get taller and stronger canes for next year. Grew from seed in pots, pricked out and potted on, then into the ground when about 6 inches high. Always seems to work ok. I did stick a couple in the centre of my runner bean wig wams, one grew fine until it reached about 5 foot, then it went off at a 45 degree angle |

Advice for collecting seeds. Wait until the plant has obviously gone passed its best. The flower head should be full of seeds if the bees have been doing their job. I cut the seed head off , strip it of as much foilage as possible and leave it somewhere dry for a week. Then the seeds should come out of the head pretty easily. Put them on a tray to dry completely before storing somewhere cool for the winter and preferably mouse free. Lost all my seeds last year thanks to my rodent squatters last year :-/ |

Fizz :-)
Also, cut the seed heads before the squirrels get them!
