there is a 10k at prestwold hall airfield near loughborough organised by Barrow Runners. i haven't done it but it may be worth contacting them, i think hellen is a member. the e-mail contact is in the link below.

would probably be 4 laps though, but it may be possible to concoct a longer lap.

Prestwold does look promising. Played with multimap and it's not the biggest airfield in the world (probably why it's disused!) but a 4 mile circuit may be possible although I might have gone through a few portacabins....

And whilst we're there we can do some kite flying with airbossworld :-)

yes, I am a member of barrow runners and did the preswold hall 10km last year.
It is a fast course but a lot of people grmbled about it being really boring. It is the only race track race I have done so have nothing to compare it to. for the 10km we did 2 laps but they were not quite identical althogh we did go past some parts twice.

Has anyone else suggested a fun run as well for the kiddies?

I've run Donington as a RFL last year so it's 5km. More than one lap would be a bit dull though.

The advantage of a multi-lap event is that you can have several distances available, and people just run to the distance that they want. Potentially ranging from 5km to 42km by the sound of it!

Marathon Lads
For example

hot summers day 30 odd degrees... 108 laps of track in 5.12

one saturday 107 lap track marathon in 5.03 followed on sunday by a 2 hour Half marathon

One Saturday 107 lap track marathon in 4.48 followed on Sunday by a 2 hour half marathon

all very boring, but all very needed for much mental stamina, for handling TOUGHer marathons , much tougher than FLM

When my youngest did a qualifying run at Army Cadets for the FLM mini, they had to run six laps of the parade ground. For each lap different coloured rubber wristbands were given out. They used the cadets to help with water and bands. Could we get local scouts, cadets, guides etc involved??

i should have perhaps added, that my last post about track running etc, was not mean't to be big headed... it's just on my journeys i meet people who everything they say simply adds to all physical stamina, but when needing to dig deep just cannot because they've never found or studied mental stamina

which to me is vital !
