So I turned 60 this year and the NHS is offering me the flu jab. I'm in rude health and haven't had a cold or anything like flu (or man flu ...) for years.

Should I have the jab or pass on it?

Had mine yesterday - can’t think of any reason why you wouldn’t. Especially this year.

Have it. I had proper influenza some years ago (as opposed to "Office flu"). I swore I'd always get the jab thereafter. It was the illest I'd been for a long time.

Having the jab won't stop you getting the odd winter virus. I rarely go through winter without getting some cough or cold.

And yes sometimes I feel a bit feverish for a day or so afterwards. It quickly passes through.

Trust me you really don't want proper flu.

I'm 51 (touch of asthma and supporting my 84 yr old Mum). I got it 6 weeks ago. Never had it before. I read it as my "community duty" to reduce risk of becoming a winter flu statistic and hence taking up NHS resources?

(By the way, don't think I've ever had "proper" flu either.)

I wasn't belittling other flu like viruses btw. I had my fair share of those back in the day, and very unpleasant they can be too.

It's just that proper influenza is like office flu's bad tempered big brother.

Oh, I know real flu is a big deal. Why would I not? Well, maybe my jab would be better given to someone more vulnerable. And I'm reducing contact with other people to a minimum because of that other lurgy so opportunities to catch the flu are limited. And as said above, I'm in robust health.

Never been offered it before so just curious. I'm certainly not an anti-vaxxer!
