No, it shouldn’t rub on the calliper body. The facing might well be off, engineering tolerances aren’t great on bike builds. I have faced plenty of disc mounts unfortunately. There is even a specific Park Tool for the job.

I have a question. Here seems as good a place as any to ask. When I was young, I remember that there were fire beaters available on Cannock Chase, usually a few in a wooden holder near fences. Wooden poles with flappy black rubber bits on the end. They disappeared at some point - I'd guess sometime in the 80s. Is the reason, as I suspect, health & safety? Someone got scared of Joe Public suing the Forestry Commission for getting a bit crispy trying to put a fire out?

Interesting point Quimbers. I remember those things. I can’t remember seeing any for ages now you mention it.

Ooh I know the things. They certainly used to have them at Elvedon Center Parcs.

Like a broom handle with some industrial scale rubber bookmarks on the end.

The natives probably put them on the trails as trip hazards for the pesky mountain bikers. (I remember the things, they were everywhere in Scotland.)

I saw some recently in the Cairngorms somewhere. Nephews were very intrigued.
