Is it really possible to run over the M5 bridge? I would only do it on the upwind side.

The footway is on the inland side I think Chris. I get a bit spooked driving over it in high winds, not sure I'd be happy to run over it. You can run over the original Severn Bridge too, in fact I had to DNF a night-time Severn Bridge 5 mile race a couple of years ago due to my Morton's neuroma. OH has cycled over it, and said the wind can be a 'bit of a nuisance'

It certainly is, Chris, I've done it several times as part of a really nice loop which comes back into Bristol all along the towpath on the west bank of the river. You only really notice the noise of the vehicles. I don't remember ever being aware of exhaust fumes (I assume that's what you are getting at?). You're about 100 feet up, so there's always plenty of air movement to dissipate any fumes and I would say that vehicle engines would be operating pretty efficiently at motorway speeds with very little in the way of harmful emissions. |

You've added another item to my to-do list. I've cycled over the old Severn Bridge twice, both westwards. On one occasion the wind was significant. |
