Thanks everybody - I'll do my best to include as many of those. This is for a review that will be in RW, so I've got to get it written up by tomorrow - but I'll see if I can hold on to the watch until the end of the week and go as in-depth as I can. The first run wasn't amazing - by my reckoning it under-reported my HR (was giving me 130bpm throughout, and typically when Katie and I trot around the lake, it's up around 145bpm), and over-reported the distance (round the lake is just a smidge over 3 miles, based on an average of dozens of trips - and it's said 3.45 miles, which put our average pace down to 8.11/mile, when it was probably closer to 9 for most of it - but we did a bit of fartlekking around some lampposts on the way home). Don't judge it on one run though - most watches have the occasional 'cheese-slides-off-cracker' moment - I'll see what it's like over a few more outings. |

I've just been out with it again, and there was a vast improvement in the accuracy of the GPS. It recorded 3.62 miles, whilst the Polar on my other wrist recorded 3.61.

Yesterday, I would have said it was pants, but having read the instructions, which tell you that the best place to wear it is slightly higher up your arm (i.e. not over the bony bit), I wore it today, and it came out with the same average and max values as the Polar HRM I was wearing to compare. So I'm pleasantly impressed - hoping to try it again in the morning.

Another test today, and I've really warmed to it - although as far as battery goes, you really need to make sure it's charged up fully. I hadn't charged it after yesterday's run+testing, so I stepped out the door and found it down on <15% But... it's like a smart phone in that regard, so it's just something to get used to. The Optical HRM is *much* better now that I've followed the instructions about avoiding the bony part of your wrist. For the vast majority of my run it was within a beat or so of the Polar. Full review to follow soon, but it's gone up in my estimation. |
