No chance of school today. Last week was as bad as it’s been, and last night she looked so ill with it. Hoping a day of complete rest will help, she has been trying hard to eat even though it makes her feel sick and her tummy hurt. We have handed over two sets of Christmas lights and MrS has rigged them up to Alexa and that makes a day in bed a bit more cozy and bright

D1 takes a ginger capsule on school days to help with anxiety-induced nausea. Seems to help a bit and won’t do any harm.

Just had a call from school though - she had dislocated her other shoulder so MrsPH is off to fetch her. 2 weeks ago she managed to put it back herself, hope she can do it today too…

Thanks PH I hope she can pop it back
When it is too much for her, physical symptoms pop up like whackamole. I think the medication is exacerbating exhaustion and low mood but it’s all we have in our locker right now. There are days when I think she is better for the distraction & structure of school but right now it just feels like sensory overload. So we just keep trying each day & hoping rather than not trying & not hoping

I feel like I just earned a Dad Badge - I helped her pop it back in!

Sensory overload is a real thing. D1 wears ear defenders at school (in fact she wears them just about all the time out the house)

I think trying and hoping instead of not trying and not hoping is a great way to look at it!

Well done PH there should be a badge for that.

I can get teen to wear noise cancelling AirPods on occasion but she was a straight no on ear defenders - I did suggest it. But that may change over time

Our OTs advise caution with ear defenders. The more you wear them the more sensitive you become to sound when you do remove them. They suggest using them for very specific, particularly noisy, situations.
