Do they definitely want to do a running challenge? If not then there are lots of walking ones they could train for. Just looking on LDWA they have the St Mary's North Down Challenge Walks on the North Downs starting near Sevenoaks, 11, 15 or 20 miles. I've not done LDWA events but supposed to be really friendly and incredibly cheap.

I've done one LDWA event - a long one - and it was really well organised. You get food stops too. One feature was that you had to do your route finding yourself a bit - they gave out a set of directions rather than a map though the directions were very well done.

Got something to say?
