57.5, yes, have modified my training somewhat in accordance with the plan I mentioned. My problem isn't my fitness, it's a recurrent migraine problem I have which leaves me feeling nauseous for quite a lot of races, today being particularly bad. I think without that, I could probably have run low 1:19 today.

Chris, did you succeed in your quest? Yes, good conditions for running today, but NOT for standing around!

It was horrible waiting for the start, wasn't particularly impressed it was then delayed.

Yep I ran a massive pb of 1.16.41, no idea where that came from especially since I only broke the 80 minute barrier for the first time earlier this year. Can't see me beating that anytime soon/ever

Fantastic time, Chris - very impressed with that! I actually thought I'd missed out on 1:20 by 30 seconds or so, then the '400 metres to go' sign came up, I glanced at my watch and saw that all I had to do was run 400 metres in 90 seconds and I'd do it (which is pretty easy, even at the end of a half marathon). So I put on a burst of speed and gave it all I had left (cursing the mud on the field for slowing me down), but unfortunately the sign was clearly way more than 400 metres from the finish. I measured the course overall as 13.18 miles, meaning I actually ran 13.11 miles in something like 1:19:40, but of course it doesn't count!

I got myself down to 81:19 in October after a pretty unstructured summer. What did seem to help though was 4 HMs over the course of late Aug - Oct, each one progressively faster.

I’ve entered Worthing in Feb so 10 weeks or so to see if a structured plan can get me down below 81. I’ve used Daniels successfully for the marathon in the past so it’s over to Jack to see if he can work some magic for me again. The sessions look hard with quite a few sets of short stuff (200s, 400s) that I have steered clear of in the past to do in the early weeks.

Gonna give it a go and also try and record some thoughts here to chart my progress. TBH, I’m not sure if I can even run one 39s 200m rep but the plan says I should at least try!

I start next week so more soon.

Well, I ran out of gas a little bit at the end of my 5 miler today but was pleased to sneak under 30 mins for the 1st time. Conditions weren’t perfect and my training has been sporadic in recent weeks so that’s OK.

On to 10 weeks of proper training.....

This weeks has 2 sessions:

4*(200, 200, 400) off 200 jog
and
6*1 mile at tempo off 1 min + 4*200

Let’s see how feasible that lot is for an old boy!

1:20:00 today. FFS. Shoelaces came undone at mile 3, lost 30-40 seconds. Rookie error.
