That sounds pretty scary Gobi! My few attempts at proper bike racing quickly convinced me I didn't have the bottle. Even a mad downhill in a short hill race feels safe in comparison.

There are old cyclists, and there are bold cyclists, but I’ve not yet met an old bold cyclist who isn’t quite badly scarred...

Get well soon Gobi!

Hats off to Gobi for offering excellent advice on this Fetch thread despite being very much on the injury bench. A sign of true class.

Puts my own lousy injury-filled season into perspective (but after two and a half months of "waiting" for a magic fix, I'm finally going to a sports physio tomorrow). Good luck with mending Gobi!

Yes, I should have said that myself - to be offering such advice when you've just had a nasty accident and are sidelined for a while is impressive. I think I'd just be scowling and sulking.

Cheers Andy

A friend of mine just drove me 30 miles so I could coach intervals at my tri club.

I'm injured not dead :-)

OK, so a quick, almost tangential question here...Gel(s) or not? Going on the basis that you don't really need them if the race is going to be less than 90 minutes, I don't bother with them. But I know those who do, who run 75 minutes or faster.

The gels would certainly not be assisting in those times!

There are probably only two reasons to take gels in a half:

1. You believe the misinformation put about by companies that produce the stuff, so there is a placebo effect.
2. You really like your dentist.

Gels in a full marathon may have a place, but not to the degree that they are used.
