Cheeky’s Dad what time are you going for? A generic sub-4 or something more precise in the 3:30 - 4:30 range?

At the moment just a sub-4. My HM PB would suggest that I should be able to go quicker but having blown up on previous occasions I’m trying to be sensible/cautious 😬

Thanks :) There's 15 weeks to go, loads of time to make a pacing decision based on how your marathon training goes.

Nononono!!!! I tested positive for covid yesterday after coming back from the gym and realising that my lungs felt like fire.
Feeling rubbish today.

I'm gutted that I went to great lengths to work around my weekend plans (including doing weird multiple laps of a campsite in Warwick!) and now I've hit a big hiccup anyway....
Please tell me that my superior vo2max and sheer bloody-mindedness means that this will not set me back too far? I was doing so well!

Sorry to hear that, hgreav :( But at least you don't have to run those laps now :)

I hope you make a quick and smooth recovery.

Hope you get an easy ride hgreav but best not to rush back too soon, no matter how tempting it is. That accumulated fitness won’t just disappear overnight

So my goal for Amsterdam in mid October is definitely going to be a sub 4 but undecided as to whether it will be a sub 3:45 (current pb is 3:54). My recent half marathon times would suggest that is potentially attainable but even with the increased mileage I am doing this cycle I don't think I am a very good convertor. Anyone got any tips for how to assess it honestly - don't want to set off at 3:45 pace and blow up! Definitely a risk this time as if I could get say 3:42 that would probably get me a London GFA so there is going to be a bit of pressure to go faster if it looks like I might be near 😬

I've got the Big Half planned for 4 September which I could either race and try and go for sub 1:40, or use as a marathon pace workout.
