The Terminator
May be seen as a random number but is my target for 6 weeks time having broken 45 minutes in the corresponding race last year when full of cold and improved my half and full marathon PBs considerably already this year.

Thing is there are already sub 45 and sub 40 10k threads and this is I think a good challenging interim target so feel free to join in the chat if you fancy a crack at it too. I will list everyone in the header accordingly.

My plan starts (a week late due to injuries) on Tuesday, feel free to buddy me and have a peep...

Just to clarify a sub 42 means averaging 6.45mm pace.

Here is a link to the plan I had from AlanR who is a sub 35 runner. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kCHAMqOISkUVrLbGcfe_EX646lKtVYhB4SeVD9C-Wkk/edit?pli=1# So you don't have to buddy me now to see the plan, although you can if you want, make me feel loved at least wont it. :-) Clearly you can have a rest on any of the easy days. He also suggested to me that it is not essential to go up to 9 mile tempo, 7 is sufficient, and that week 7 should be a taper for the race where you 'miss the speed session and do a cut down tempo session, then fill the rest of the week with easy running and rest.' Also regards the saturday parkruns/10k he suggests 're at the park runs or races i would have ran the 5km's flat out and they 10km's at tempo pace on a hard course or slightly faster on a fast course' with no parkrun within 40 miles of me I will just be doing a hard 5k as part of a 6 mile training run.

Can I just say I'm pretty sure AlanR would recommend this as a pretty generic 10k plan whatever time you are aiming for....

Lyra OK
Ah, this might be better off in the training category rather than the race category, then you might get more responses. :) There are a few Fetchies with the power to change this for you. Off the top of my head, I can think of Puddington and Hoaxster, so you may want to drop them an fmail. Alternatively, ask Fetch himself to do it or start the thread again.

And I'm definitely interested. While a sub 20 5k is my target, it'd be nice if a sub 42 10k was a natural by-product of training for that, wouldn't it?

Good luck with the plan, I'm totally sure you can do it!

...oh and yes Lyra, conversely I am hoping a sub 20 5K may be a by product of training for a sub 42 10k :-)

Pudds has sorted it right out too....

I was getting close to this two years ago, but due to stupid multi-marathoning have lost ground, now 90 seconds down.

Going to have a look at the article ^

Im in, not too sure if Im going to hit the target, but I will give it a good shot. Feel a bit more confident with 2 good PBs so far this year and a fair drop in weight, but will be doing it on 4-5 sessions per week

I'm going for it. I'll be trying to keep Lyra and FR in sight while I'm at it. Currently my best is 45:57 so it's a big ask but sub-20 5k and sub-42 10k targets have to go together really, don't they?

Good to have some more of you on board, any target races for you?

I started the plan yesterday on week 2 with an interval session, felt comfortable at just above 6.30mm pace, thing is if that is my 5k pace will be a little difficult to get below 6.45 for the 10 k so am going to have to up the effort in those sessions. Was my first interval session for 6-7 weeks though so was happy enough.

Is not going to be an easy target but with no more 10k target races fr the foreseeable future after Llanelli am going to have to give it some beans and hope for the best!
