Thanks everyone, love this thread and definitely value everyone's input. Don't you dare slip away from here LMH, you're probably the regular poster with the most to give in terms of top quality performances. 10 days to 2 weeks seems the consensus, probably won't taper so hard that it'll affect the subsequent races too much. Definitely going to pinch elements from the suggested sessions too (thanks WW for sight of your plan). |

I appreciate your kind comments gents and look forward to cheering you all on to your sub 3 performances. I would say 'maybe next year' but I think that two years out of proper training and increasing age probably means that won't happen. Not that I won't try. |

Lots of learning for me too here, I appreciate everyone comments... I'm around 7 weeks out from the Gold Coast Marathon in QLD, Au. I'm planning to do an easy-ish LR 2 weeks to go, and the weekend before the race do a fairly shortened LR. The week of the race, planning to get some short runs with marathon pace sections in and hope for the best. Doing a weird 30k race next weekend (6 weeks out) -- more of a confidence booster than anything.. I haven't done a mara for over 4 years! So very excited to give this one a crack |

Welcome d_m. I envy you the Gold Coast 30k is a good race 6 weeks out, shouldn't take too much away from your training - what's your aim and are you adjusting your training around the race?

Roughly the ai. For 30k is to go under 2h 5 mins. I plan to run it at marathon pace (aiming for a 2h50m for GC). It replaces my LR for the week and I'll also do 10% less total mileage for the week. That should be enough right?

Sounds about right. My plan has a 25k MP run at...7 and 3 weeks out I think. So your race can easily replace one of them.

That should be fine six weeks out.
