Well done Bruno. Cracking time and sounds like a quality field.

Nice Brunski

I had a poor return to track last night in the 800 and 3000. Got good points for the team as nearly everyone seemed a bit off but lost twice to a guy I've beaten all year.

Post Covid and down month generally but my head just wasn't in it to push myself so trying reverse psychology of look how fast I am off a poor effort :-)

Oh still would have been 17.x for 5k just not the 16.x I was running May into June

Lots of quick Hallamshire Harriers in the field Daz Love

Gobi I need a bit of that reverse psychology at times, I beat a couple I don't often beat but the guy who's time I matched at the relays a fortnight ago took 30 seconds out of me. I blame him for the quick start, I had it in my mind I wanted to run with him but he held his pace a lot better in miles 2 and 3. My firm fell apart up the hills (more slight inclines) on the last lap.

Brunski - I wouldn't beat yourself up, it's a hard course to pace correctly. It looks like you may have got sucked into the classic trap of feeling good on the slightly downhill start!

Mid-Cheshire 5k is England Athletics champs race again next spring (as it was last Friday night). Given how close this is to home, I'll happily cheer on any speedsters trying to mix it at the sharp end. Must be a fast course, otherwise I'd never have got as close to sub 18 on it 😂😂😂

(Not cheap for a 5k, though!)

Had a blast round the Podium 5k tonight, perfect conditions but I'm nowhere near properly fit, it was just a benchmark to start the winter with really so happy enough to be sub-19. Was quicker than that on the first (uphill half of the Ribble Valley 10k last Dec though so there's plenty of work to be done!

17:09.20 for 5000 (track) earlier. Plan was to go out at 80 which I might have managed to start if the pace had gone out at that, but it felt like a sprint off the line (partly legs not ready for speed and it starting too fast) so I just started at the back (82 first lap) and hoped I'd work through. I was eventually the next person behind the lead group but they had a big gap, so it was hard work apart from one person on my shoulder who was strong but evidently didn't have anything to come through (seemed pretty obvious that she was on her limit and I was dragging her round.

Splits 3:24.85 3:23.12 3:31.04 3:29.70 3:20.49

Next person in front ran 16:41.93 so big gap.

Should hopefully be back under 17 in track season and some 800/1500 work and races will make 5000 pace feel slow to start at least.

Hopefully another step will be made in 2 weeks at the road relays.
