J2R - If other distances and training indicate you can PB, no reason why not.

jda - an April race will give you a good indication of where you're at and lots of time to get into PB shape for future races.

After not racing for so long there's always the possibility that the first race back might not be a true indication of shape as well as might need to blow off a few cobwebs.

I'm still harbouring ambitions of getting closer than the 14s deficit I've got at the moment, but not confident!

5k club virtual relay effort due this weekend on the fast Kingsley course (solo). Sub 20 might even be a stretch gven the lack of running I've done recently!

^ took me 3 x fortnightly efforts on a 5k loop to get back to sub 20 for a club challenge recently. The last few minutes of each run were hell, knowing it'd have been over by then in the past doesn't help at all.

Hard to think sub 19 or 18 will ever happen again, but got to keep training & trying.

I've said previously there's no chance of me getting anywhere near my PB in a virtual test and I've avoided all of these challenges.

I ran 10 miles a couple of weekends back at sub 90 HM pace and may decide to do a full 13.1 at that pace (or better) in a couple of weeks. Things that should be 'easily' achievable for me but challenges in the sense that I'd never do those speeds in training for that distance if I was racing XC during the winter as normal before starting track season.

Having done no hard running for a year I shall have to do a run test in the next few weeks. There is a concern that sub 18 may have to be a target :¬(

(I was in sub 17 shape this time last year, ran 19.xx as a jog in June and 17 miles at 6.4X in September)

I should say that, I've never done those speeds before full spot, lol.

I don't think the speed will have been lost long term for anyone TBH. If the base is there, it will return eventually with a few races/ sessions to tune up.

I've done a couple of fairly hard treadmill efforts - including a 5k PB in fact, though I know the tready runs fast so I'm not reading anything into it - but have hardly ventured onto roads. Time to change that now that I've got a race and spring is here. The race is categorised as 18:30-19:30 speed which should be a realistic pace for me. Cardio fitness wise I am definitely at PB level due to zwift, but I expect that will take work and time to transfer to running.

So I think I've talked myself into some more outdoor running over the next couple of weeks. It actually fits well into my calendar...

Gobi - Your issues respond better to a bit of speed all year round?

jda - No issues with roads here but no XC means I've missed the monthly blast that means the ability to work hard for sustained periods is there come road/ track season. Definitely feel I've improved my pure endurance as I said elsewhere just need to convert that into race performances.
