BOOM! 1.39.12 yesterday at St Neots! It's been a long road back.

How are the rest of you doing?

congrats Nellers, well done! (even if that was last year)

I'm back in marathon training, trying to get my 2016 form back, 2017 was a sh**e year for running for me so I hope 2018 will be better. This has been the pattern since 2014, even numbered years went really well with plenty of PBs and great race experiences, odd numbered not so much.
Good luck to all who have spring targets. Stick to your training plan during the tough months and reap the rewards later. :)

Hope to get under 1.40 at Norwich in April but need to find my racing mind first. I ran a windy warm 10 mile race yesterday in 74.53 but I felt like I gave up at 8 miles. The wind definitely got the better of me and I felt like stopping. Not sure where my competitiveness has gone!!

Goofee
I've dipped under 100 minutes once and my primary running aim is now to get back there. A couple of years of various issues have knocked me back to the stage where I'm not sure that sub 2 hours is even on at the moment but it feels as if things are turning round. I have three Halves booked over the next three months, realistically 1:40 is too much to wish for but maybe I can get back to 1:45 at one of them...

Anybody else targeting 1:40 this spring, or like me, a step back towards it?

I'm going completely the wrong direction Goofee.. I've manged sub-100 3 times, and now I'm struggling, having done 4 villages in 1.53 a few weeks ago.. I hope to be doing GNR in Sept, and would love to get somewhere close again.. I know what I have to do, just get running again! Big doses of CBA and losing running sessions to swimming means my mileage is at an all time low... so get back running regularly, lose a few kilos.. and bob's yer uncle.. incidently my 3 sub-100min HMs were at Blackpool, Cardiff and GNR...

I'm reviving this thread as I'm back in the game. I just saw that my last comment was from January 2018 when I was training for Leipzig Marathon and had two halfs lined up in preparation. In both I fininshed under 1:40: Anglesey half in 1:38:52 on 4 March 2018, my final race as a Cybi Strider, and Öpfingen half in 1:39:48 on 31st March. Both races were run in about 5°C which is what I like. My 3 sub 1:40 half marathons have all happened in 5°C.

Then it suddenly warmed up to 26°C for the marathon on 22 April. I was targeting 3:30 but had to slow down because of the heat. Finished in 3:45:27 and that was it pretty much with any faster marathon or half marathon attempt for four years. I still managed a 3:47:53 out of nowhere in 2019 but no half anywhere near 1:45, let alone 1:40. Thyroid problems and the pandemic kicked my butt in 2020. In 2021, I focused on getting 5k and 10k back to some speed before I tried a faster half or marathon again in 2022. The marathon was impacted by warm weather again: 3:51 instead of the 3:35-40 I wanted - I think I have to go for earlier races, May is way too late in Germany.

But I redeemed myself with a 1:41:30 half on 16 October in Leipzig. I was expecting a 1:50, maybe a 1:45 on a good day but then totally smashed in on the day. Really pleased with 18th lady out of 350ish, 3rd in my age group V40. Roll on 2023! I still have a couple of shorter races until 19 November. When they are done and dusted, I'll take 6 weeks to work on my base, increase my weekly mileage from 30-35 to 50 by doing mostly easy runs with the odd parkrun thrown in and some strides or hill reps. In January, I'll go again, probably targeting Leipzig marathon again with a half in the build-up. So I'll be back here in the new year.

I ran a sub 3:30 marathon in Leipzg two weeks ago. I didn't manage to fit a test half in, the P&D is pretty demanding without it.

Now I've had a look if there are any half marathons in summer that are flat and PB material. I've got one in July - if it's not too hot, I might try and get there a sub 1:40. If it's hot, I'll defer that plan until next spring.
