Agreed, almost everyone on the list is an individual World Champion.

Personally, I'd have liked to have seen Joe Root nominated as he is ranked the best Test Batsmen in the world, but I suspect the lack of cricket on the BBC may have been an influencing factor there.

K5 Gus
Lucy who ?

Kevin who ?

Can honestly say I've never even heard of either of them !

Doesn't mean they're not good though, just I have no interest in women's football or rugby league

There's a good description of all the candidates, and their achievements, here telegraph.co.uk

Gus, you obviously need educating ;-) In short, Kevin Sinfield captained Leeds Rhinos to seven Super League championships and two Challenge Cup successes during his 16 years playing at the club, and is also a former England RL captain. He moved from RL to RU in October having captained Leeds to an unprecedented League Leaders shield, Grand Final and Challenge Cup winning treble in 2015. He is also the highest points-scorer in Super League history. (And yes I'm a Leeds Rhinos fan :-))

Ultracat: Henry Cooper twice, Damon Hill twice, Nigel Mansell twice.

I like how they subtly demean Tyson Fury in the BBC article by writing his name in the same font they used for the opening titles of Gladiators. ichef.bbci.co.uk

Actually that's not a bad idea, I move that when Fury and Klitschko have their contractual rematch, they eschew another hugging contest and go toe-to-toe on the Travelator instead.

Great list, all have done great things in their sports. Not sure who I'd pick, maybe Jess Ennis or Lizzie Armistead. However I'm guessing that boxing or motorsport may overpower some of the others.
Much as I think Murray deserves another win I think someone else should have the individual title and the Davis Cup team the team prize.

2 votes for Jess from this household - although we are both positive she'll come third again (or was she second once?)
