Sorry but I have just read the rules.

"Leave machinery alone"? Pah. If I canlt have a play with a Massey then I'm not doing it.

lol. That's just a copy and paste from the countryside code. I claim no credit for that line.

Just wanted to say that yes, there are qualifying criteria and yes, it will be a tough race. There is a considerable amount of climb, it will be over 100 miles, and there is minimum support.

I cannot accept entries unless the runner's background suggests that they can finish the distance, so if you have no long distance trail experience, please do some other races before entering this one.

I've added links to other South Downs races on the website if you want to try a couple of shorter events first.

My aim is to get as many starters crossing the finish line as possible, and for them to enjoy it as much as possible. Therefore I will refuse entry where I don't see past evidence of trail runs.

I plan to make this an annual event rather than a one off, so if you are tempted but don't have the experience, there is plenty of time to build up, say for 2011 or later.

On a personal note, I will have been regularly running trail ultras for over three years before I attempt a 100 miler, so if you have never run more than a road marathon or two, then to do this race next year may be a tough ask.

LD - I think that Scottish Athletics comes under the umbrella of UK Athletics, in which case £2 not necessary.

I have done 27 Bushy Park time trials. That's 84 miles. Does that count?
